A Saga Sapphire cruise to make you sparkle!

  • Yoga and Pilates sessions, advice from a nutritionist and hiking and biking adventures

  • Spot whales and other wildlife with the on board ORCA team

Saga Sapphire’s Canary Islands in Spring cruise is set to put a spring into the step of guests who love to be active.

Well-being is the focus with on-board yoga and Pilates sessions as well as the chance to fine-tune eating habits and diet with advice from a nutritionist.

Saga cruise ships are renowned for fine dining and to help guests make healthy choices on this 14-night cruise, low-calorie dishes are highlighted on the menus.

The Canary Islands in Spring sailing also beats the crowds and the heat of summer so time ashore features excursions such as cycling along historic lanes or heading off the beaten track on 4x4 safaris.

Saga Sapphire departs from Southampton on April 20, 2018 with a call to Funchal, Madeira, offering a 4X4 safari into the mountains or a RIB adventure to look for whales and dolphins. Whale-spotting sessions also take place on deck with representatives from ORCA, the whale and dolphin conservation charity.

Lovers of the great outdoors can also join a trek through ancient laurels in Los Tilos Forest, in La Palma, while in Tenerife, there’s an opportunity to hike in Mount Teide National Park or take a catamaran trip and be on the look out for whales.

In Las Palmas, guests can walk into the heart of the Bandama Caldera which is 650-feet deep and almost three-quarters of a mile in diameter. Sailing on to Fuerteventura, the sub-tropical climate means swimming in the sea is possible throughout the year and there’s a transfer to Corralejo Beach, a six-mile stretch of beautiful golden sand.

View Lanzarote’s stark beauty on a vintage tram through the some of the oldest district area south of Lisbon.

ORCA's Head of Science & Conservation, Lucy Babey said: “Cruises in this region are always a highlight and earlier this year we saw ten species of whale and dolphin plus turtles, sharks and more. Particular highlights included sperm whales, Atlantic spotted dolphin and some great fin whale sightings too.

“Not only are these cruises a great experience for volunteers and passengers alike, the data we collect is an invaluable part of our conservation work so we are excited to be joining the Saga Sapphire again for another visit to the Canaries in 2018 and hope to see even more animals next year.”
