Private access to watch the sun-rise at Chichén Itzá , stay in haciendas amid stunning settings and Go bird-watching in the Celestún Biosphere Reserve – all of this is possible when joining Saga’s New Treasures of the Yucatan escorted tour.

Discover ancient pre-Colombian ruins, colonial towns and sites of outstanding natural beauty in the Yucatan and Chiapas on Saga’s incredible 13-night Mexican adventure.

This new tour, Treasures of the Yucatan, features stays in unique haciendas, former colonial farmhouses each with beautiful gardens or private pools and beach access, as well as Marriott and Intercontinental luxury hotel stays.

Guests enjoy private access to the pre-Colombian Mayan site of Chichén Itzá to watch the sun rise over the ruins and many expert-guided tours which include braving dense jungle to explore the Mayan site of Kohunlich and scaling the Temple of Masks.

Further highlights are excursions to Tecoh, in the heart of Yucatan’s henequén plantation zone, to learn about the making of henequén fibre for traditional rugs and ropes, to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Uxmal, the colonial city of Campeche, dolphin spotting at Laguna de Términos, and to Parque-Museo la Venta, home to Olmec artefacts rescued from the site of La Venta.

Saga’s guests can also visit the ruins of Chicanna and the House of the Serpent Mouth, ‘doorway to the underworld’, the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Palenque - where 10 per cent of the Mayan site has been excavated but 1,000 structures still remain covered in the jungle - and Tulúm, the last Mayan city, which survived the Spanish occupation by 70 years.

Further optional tours include a boat trip in the Celestún Biosphere Reserve, with a chance to see up to 300 bird species, and a tour of Edzná, the most important Mayan complex in Campeche.
