Celebrate the centenary of the US National Park Service on Saga’s 14 night tour of majestic landscapes
On August 25, 2016, the United States of America’s National Park Service will mark its 100th anniversary and guests on Saga’s National Parks Discovery tour can marvel at many of the parks’ natural wonders.
There are more than 400 National Parks in the US and the Saga tour will take in majestic landscapes where guests can peer over the edge of the Grand Canyon, stand in the shadow of Mount Rushmore and gaze at the Old Faithful Geyser in the first national park, Yellowstone.
The holiday will start with a two-night stay in Denver with time to explore the city before a journey north to Rapid City in South Dakota.
Guests will see the impressive Mount Rushmore National Memorial with sculptures of US presidents carved into the granite face and the world's largest mountain carving, the Crazy Horse Memorial, in the Black Hills of South Dakota before travelling through the Bighorn Mountains.
There will be an overnight stay in Cody, the city named after William Cody who was better known as Buffalo Bill, before arriving at the Yellowstone National Park with much to see from the Yellowstone River, the Grizzly Bear and Wolf Centre and the Old Faithful Geyser which erupts about every hour.
More natural wonders await in the mountainous Grand Teton National Park en route to Jackson, where a two-night hotel stay will offer plenty of leisure time and there will be an optional rafting trip along Snake River.
The tour will continue to Salt Lake City via Bridger-Teton National Forest and Bear Lake followed by the fascinating Bryce Canyon National Park, in Utah, where guests will view the ‘hoodoos’ – some of the world’s most remarkable rock formations.
There will also be an included excursion to Zion National Park to see the beautiful 15-mile Zion Canyon before travelling on the Goulding’s Trading Post, in Monument Valley.
The highlight of the holiday will come at the South Rim of the Grand Canyon and several choices of helicopter and plane rides will be available to view the Canyon’s panoramic magnificence.
After all the excitement it will be time to drive to Phoenix via Oak Creek Canyon and Sedona, a city surrounded by dramatic red rock formations. Here guests will be able to round off this rewarding holiday with an optional jeep tour of the Red Rocks.
