Game for a safari?
Spot the Big Five on Saga’s all-inclusive safari holiday at Lakeside Lodge, a relaxing retreat in Limpopo, South Africa.
A group of up to 24 guests stay in a classic thatched, stone-built lodge within the Entabeni Safari Conservancy, on the banks of the Entabeni Lake, where animals can be seen roaming free. Guests can also visit the Wildlife and Cultural Centre and learn about the rare white lion, a species which is gradually being re-introduced to the wild.
Rangers lead game drives in the early morning or at dusk and guests travel in open safari vehicles for the chance to spot lion, cheetah, giraffe, elephant, leopard and warthog as well as many species of antelope.
A cruise on Entabeni Lake gives guests an opportunity to watch some of the 380 bird species which have made the reserve their home and, as one of the main sources of water in the region, hippos may also be seen.
Entabeni is in the UNESCO-listed Waterberg Biosphere and the conservancy covers more than 220 square kilometres. As well as going on game drives, guests can also go on a themed walk to learn about traditional methods of survival in the African bush with a guide who demonstrates how to read the land in the same way as the indigenous tribes.
There is also an opportunity to learn about cycad plants which have changed little since the Jurassic period. Many are now under threat and Entabeni is home to some protected species.
Further highlights include a talk on wildlife photography and stargazing at the Astro Boma.
At Lakeside Lodge, the 24 bedrooms are linked by thatched walkways to the reception and public areas. Each of the rooms has lake and mountain views.
All meals are included and there is a free bar which serves alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks from 11am to 11pm daily.
