Grammy award-winning violinist Augustin Hadelich to lead Saga’s Celebrity Recitals holiday

Violinist Augustin Hadelich has won the 2016 Grammy for Best Classical Instrumental Solo for his performance of Dutilleux's Violin Concerto, "Larbre des songes," with Ludovic Morlot and Seattle Symphony Orchestra.

Saga guests can look forward to hearing a sparkling celebrity performance by Augustin, Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra’s new artist-in-residence, and pianist Sunwook Kim, at Poole Lighthouse, during a four-night holiday in Bournemouth.

Augustin, who has been captivating audiences across the world, will perform with some of Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra Strings section during a programme of music ranging from Mendelssohn’s Octet and Ysaye’s Solo Violin Sonata No. 6 to Mozart’s Piano Quartet in G minor.

The Saga-exclusive “Celebrity Recitals” holiday on March 14 will also include four in-house performances from resident host and Schubert scholar, Brian Newbould, accompanied by pianist Ann Airton, plus an illustrated talk.

Bournemouth has been a popular seaside destination for 200 years and features Victorian pleasure gardens, alfresco cafés, lively pubs and shops. It is also an excellent base to visit the New Forest or explore the Jurassic Coast – England’s only natural UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Guests will stay in the privately-owned Queens Hotel, in Bournemouth, on a half-board basis. The hotel’s restaurant, ‘Alexanders’, features many delicious dishes created from locally sourced produce. There is also a garden room and lounge bar for relaxation.

This special interest holiday also includes an excursion to the Dorset County Museum which houses an archaeology collection of around 1.3 million artefacts and an archive dedicated to the writer Thomas Hardy.
