Bird lovers can tick one experience off the bucket list, with the chance to catch sight of the incredibly rare and beautiful wild ospreys, in the protected environment of Rutland Water Nature Reserve.

After extinction in the British Isles in 1916, the Ospreys reappeared in Scotland nearly 40 years later and some of their chicks were resettled in the reserve. Happily, a pair returned from migration and, in 2001, produced the first chick in England for 150 years! Now several pairs have made the Reserve their home.

The break includes a trip to the important reserve with a presentation about the Rutland Osprey Project. Guests also have a guided osprey-spotting cruise aboard the Rutland Belle, visiting areas of the reservoir where you’re most likely to see these magnificent birds and their nesting sites plus there’s an included nature walk around the reserve with expert guide.
