There’s also plenty of time to laze on powder-white sandy beaches and savour the breath-taking scenery during the new 16-night all-inclusive Indian Ocean paradise tour.

Connoisseurs will appreciate two rum distillery visits and an exploration of the Domaine des Aubineaux tea plantation, while further tours feature a coffee museum on a sugar estate, the Sugar Adventure Museum housed in an old sugar factory, a tour of a cassava biscuit producer and a typical Mauritian lunch served at a private house.

For garden lovers, the remarkable Royal Botanical Gardens in Pamplemousse and a garden developed by Irish botanist Charles Telfair, in the historic village of Souillac, can be explored.

Guests stay in stylish resorts which all feature a 12-hour free bar serving local alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.

The adventure begins in the south of the island with a five-night stay at the Tamassa Resort (4*) in Bel Ombre with visits to the sacred Lake of Grand Bassin and the Chamarel Waterfalls. An optional tour to Casela Nature Park offers the chance to look for the rare pink pigeon, giant tortoises, tigers, monkeys, lemurs and fruit bats.

Next on the itinerary is the InterContinental Mauritius Resort Balaclava Fort (5*), set in tropical gardens on the shores of Balaclava Bay, it is a base to tour the island’s capital Port Louis or visit Trou aux Biches for the underwater safari in which non-divers can explore the sea bed, escorted from the beach to about two-and-a-half metres below the surface, with a helmet and diving weights.

The last four nights are spent on the east of the island at Solana Beach (4*), another beautiful waterside resort, situated in Belle Mare, one of the most prestigious beaches n Mauritius. The resort is perfect for lazing by the pool as well as walking in La Vallée de Ferney Nature Reserve which is nestled within the Bambous Mountains.
