New: Castles of the Meuse Valley river cruise

Single cabins at no extra cost*
Saga-exclusive sailing
Eurostar travel option

Saga’s new Castles of the Meuse Valley river cruise meanders through Belgium to visit ‘art central’ Antwerp, lively Liège and historic Namur to explore the region’s spectacular medieval fortresses and extravagant chateaux.

This eight-night river cruise on 154-passenger Regina Rheni II is exclusively for Saga guests and wine, beer and soft drinks are included with lunch and dinner.

Regina Rheni II’s round-trip from Amsterdam also takes guests to Kinderdijk to view 19 traditional windmills before sailing on to the dynamic city of Rotterdam, a hotspot for contemporary art and architecture.

Antwerp, Belgium’s second city, has a vibrant fashion and entertainment scene and guests can join an included walking tour of the city.

The cobbled lanes are lined with bars, cafes and tempting independent shops while the grand market square is overlooked by the gothic Cathedral of our Lady which contains several significant works by Flemish baroque painter Peter Paul Rubens.

Regina Rheni II cruises on to the university town of Liège which boasts the Legion of Honour, the highest award bestowed by France for military merit, marking the bravery of Belgians who held back the German advance across the River Meuse in 1914.

In Namur, where the River Sambre meets the Meuse, guests can explore independently or discover the baroque cathedral with its squat belfry which began life as a military watchtower.

The next stop is Maastricht, where a stroll along the riverside promenades and parks makes for an attractive start to the day before sailing to Roermond to explore its charming waterfront.

The cruise continues to Arnhem, a region of heaths, forests and gently undulating farmland. Guests can visit the lovely town or opt to join a tour to learn about the fierce World War II Battle of Arnhem.

On return to Amsterdam, the itinerary includes a full day and night to discover the vibrant city – plenty of time to squeeze in a few museums, a gallery or two and some boutique shopping.
