NEW: Norwegian Notes cruise

Saga Pearl II sails into a magical setting during the Hardanger Music Festival

Hardangerfjord’s majestic scenery has inspired musicians for centuries, including Edvard Grieg, Norway’s best-known composer.

The region’s musical legacy lives on at the annual Hardanger Music Festival, a week-long celebration of chamber music and folk songs.
A series of performances are held in scenic locations along the fjord every May, when the blossom is at its peak, creating a beautiful backdrop to the festival.

Stig Nilsson of the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra started the event in 1995; he wanted a special location for a classical music festival and found the peaceful Hardangerfjord to be the perfect setting.

Saga Pearl II sails in during the festival and moors overnight in Eidfjord, part of Hardangerfjord, which is surrounded by towering mountains and cascading waterfalls.

Composer Edvard Grieg spent many happy summers in Hardangerfjord, where the natural surroundings inspired his works, and Saga guests can also celebrate the dramatic scenery while enjoying an air of music festivity on board Saga Pearl II.

Bands on board the 400-passenger ship play classical concerts and live music and there are late-night buffets to sustain music lovers!

Saga Pearl II also calls into Haugesund, as Norway celebrates its Constitution Day, and the coastal town of Stavanger, so guests can choose from variety of optional excursions to discover even more of the country’s stunning landscape.
