Join a game drive and river trip in a pristine environment

Saga guests get close to nature on this new African adventure, staying in tented camps to enjoy a series of game drives in the Okavango Delta.

The holiday starts in style with a VIP door-to-door chauffeur service to London Heathrow for an overnight flight to Johannesburg.

Guests take a 15-minute light aircraft flight to a tented camp overlooking Chiefs Island, deep in the Okavango Delta. On this palm-fringed island, the camp comprises 16 large permanent tents with verandas which are perfect for watching wildlife.

During a two-night stay, activities include river trips in traditional 'mokoro' canoes to look for wildlife; a fishing expedition or a bush walk with an expert guide to look for antelope, elephants, crocodiles, hippos and hyenas.

This exciting holiday, for up to 20 guests, continues with a 25-minute low level light aircraft flight over the Okavango Delta which gives a true understanding of the myriad channels, lagoons and islands that make up this unique ecosystem, to Mankwe Bush Lodge, on the edge of Moremi Game Reserve. Guests can take morning and afternoon game drives to look for herds of buffalo, lions, wild dogs and hundreds of bird species.

Mankwe Bush Lodge, with its permanently erected tents, offers a true taste of the African bush. Meals are cooked in an open-sided restaurant where diners can listen to the sound of the wild.

Travelling by especially adapted open vehicles , the next three nights are spent in a mobile tented camp within the Chobe National Park; the realm of the elephant. On game drives, guests are also likely to see an abundance of water and forest birds, buffalo, giraffe and impala. In the evenings, the group can dine at beautifully-laid tables and later sit round a campfire to share stories of wildlife sightings.

This Active Explorer holiday continues to Kasane, on the Chobe River, for two nights at the Cresta Mowana Safari Resort & Spa (4Q). Guests can relax by the pool or continue to look for wildlife, either on a boat cruise to see herds of elephant and buffalo or on optional safari or bird-watching excursions.

Keen birdwatchers may wish to join the January 11, 2017 departure to discover birdlife in the Delta, accompanied by an expert birdwatching guide.

A 'dry' season tour runs from May to October while the November to April 'green' season itinerary visits Makgadikgadi Pans National Park instead of Chobe National Park.
