Saga has got in touch with its artistic side to create a cruise where passengers can immerse themselves in a world of art and architecture.
The 20-day Impressions of the Mediterranean sailing on Saga Sapphire visits Barcelona to focus on architect Antonio Gaudi’s extraordinary work before sailing to the nearby port of Palamós which is ideally located for a visit to the Salvador Dali museum, Teatre Dali, in the artist’s hometown of Figueres.
In Malaga the focus is on Picasso and in Bilbao, Saga Sapphire moors overnight so guests can enjoy a private viewing at the spectacular waterside Guggenheim Museum.
Classic architecture also features including the spectacular cathedrals in Cadiz and Palma, plus another highlight is a port of call to Livorno, for Florence, which is home to some of the world’s greatest art and architectural treasures.
The South of France, which has inspired artists over the centuries, is also on the itinerary and during a call in Toulon; guests can follow in the footsteps of Cezanne and visit his studio in Aix-en-Provence. A tour to Arles, where Vincent van Gogh painted many of his masterpieces also takes passengers to see the town’s impressive Roman amphitheatre.
The art and architecture theme also runs through ship’s on board activities and there are art classes, activities and lectures.
One of the talks is presented by a master forger and James Langley, Saga’s Head of Marine Operations, says this will add another interesting dimension for art-loving passengers.
He said: “We have let our imaginations go with this cruise and the itinerary offers lots of different views of art for our passengers.
“They can immerse themselves in art while ashore and be inspired by their favourite artists; so on the return journey they can use their skills and influences to paint their own masterpiece.
“There will be an art tutor on board so everyone from beginners to experienced artists can enjoy the classes.”-ENDS-
