Older voters do not vote with the selfish gene says Saga
"The notion that older voters are selfish is just plain wrong. In fact, the grey vote is more community spirited and less self-centred than younger voters.
"Research we commissioned showed that just 10% of the over 65s said that issues that directly affected them were the most important factor in how they cast their vote, compared to 30% of those aged 18-24. In addition, just 29% of those aged 18-24 said that issues that affected the country as a whole was the most important consideration, compared with 60% of those aged 65 and over.
"So whilst Lord Campbell is right that the propensity of over 50s to vote means their support will be vital to the outcome, his view that they will do so without regard to the interests of their family and wider society is misguided.
"Our latest survey of nearly 9,000 50s shows there is still all to play for - as whilst support from Brexit is ahead there are a great many over 50s who have yet to make their mind up."
