Saga Cruises celebrates Spirit of Adventure’s first anniversary and Spirit of Discovery’s third
Friday July 8, 2022: July is a big month for Saga Cruises as it marks the first anniversary of Spirit of Adventure’s maiden voyage on July 26 and Spirit of Discovery’s third anniversary on July 10.
Despite Covid-19, Spirit of Discovery has already undertaken 145,000 nautical miles, completed 48 cruises and visited 273 destinations, while Spirit of Adventure has operated just under 80,000 nautical miles, undertaken 23 cruises and visited 144 destinations (and counting).
By the ships’ anniversaries, guests have enjoyed nearly 2,825 excursions from Spirit of Discovery and 1,617 from Spirit of Adventure.
And although the boutique ships are small with a capacity of just 987 guests, every need has been catered for with a total of 36.9 million meals served and 668,000 bottles of wine poured across both vessels since they undertook their inaugural cruises.
Gin and tonic tops the poll for the most popular alcoholic drink and filet steak is the top meal choice on board the ships. Guests also make their way through 3,100 cups of tea a day and since the ships began sailing some 5.7 million eggs, 9,200kg of lobster, 13,500kg of Dover sole and a whopping 190,000kg of smoked salmon have been served!
The state-of-the-art on-board gyms have helped travellers burn off the calories and 12,000 guests have made use of the beautiful spas to enjoy the top treatment of acupuncture.
And a cruise wouldn’t be a success without a stellar entertainment line-up. Across the two ships more than 150 guest entertainers including the likes of Jools Holland and Rustie Lee, and more than 200 guest speakers including champion jockey, Bob Champion CBE, author and journalist Martin Sixsmith and Royal Yeoman, Robert Large, have graced the stage.
Nigel Blanks, CEO of Saga Cruises, said: “It’s an absolute joy for us to be celebrating Spirit of Adventure’s first anniversary and Spirit of Discovery’s third – they have come around so fast!
“Both ships were built bespoke to our specifications with our customers in mind. We spoke to our guests at length about what they wanted and the décor and layout is entirely based on their feedback. They asked for boutique, modern and incredibly elegant and I think we achieved that.
“Spirit of Discovery had only been sailing a short while when the pandemic hit, and Spirit of Adventure was launched as travel gradually returned last year and yet, we’ve had an overwhelming response from our guests who have been keen to get back out on the water. We’ve also welcomed a lot of newcomers to cruising who want an incredible and stress-free travel experience and see Saga and our beautiful, young ships as delivering just that.”
All Saga’s ocean cruises are all-inclusive with a complimentary door-to-door chauffeur service, or Saga can arrange car parking near the port, domestic flights or standard class rail/coach travel. There are no hidden costs on-board either. Saga Cruises come with all dining and house drinks including a selection of wines with lunch and dinner, Wi-Fi, on-board gratuities, fitness facilities, 24-hour room service, sightseeing tours in selected ports, entertainment (from lectures to recitals), porterage of luggage, shuttle buses to nearest town centres and travel insurance with up to £5m coronavirus cover included.
