The hills are alive with the sound of brass bands
- Five-night holiday in Tyrol-style hotel from £799
Glittering mountain peaks and green meadows are the backdrop for this year’s Alpine Brass Music Festival in October.
Brass bands from all over Europe come together to perform and parade, playing music from traditional to swing, classical and rock, in the idyllic Austrian Tyrol.
Saga’s five-night Alpine Brass Music Festival special interest holiday includes three evenings of musical entertainment, a morning mountain party and two briefings from a music host.
Saga guests stay the Tyrolean-style Hotel Rösslwirt (3Q) on a half-board basis. Set in Kirchberg town centre the hotel enjoys stunning Alpine views.
From here guests can explore at leisure and choose from optional excursions on the narrow gauge Zillertal Railway to Mayrhofen or a boat tour on Lake Auchen, known as the ‘Fjord of the Alps’.
The Alpine Brass Music Festival tent in Ellmau is a 10-minute drive from the hotel and guests take their seats for the official opening ceremony where brass music fills the evening air.
Music continues the next day and guests travel into the heart of the Kitzbuhel Alps on the new Hartkaiserbahn gondola lift, which travels to a height of 1,530 metres in nine minutes, covering over two kilometres.
At the top of the mountain, the wonderful sound of music continues as bands play while enjoying the stunning Wilder Kaiser Mountains as a backdrop.
In the evening, guests return to the festival tent for a night of brass music with performances from local and international bands.
On the last day of the festival, regional and international bands come together with local groups in a colourful procession through the town and guests take their seats for the final evening.
