Wild West Cork and Rosscarbery
Wake up in Wild West Cork - Take cable car over sea to Dursey Island, Enjoy birdwatching at Rosscarbery Lagoon, Join a whale and dolphin watching tour, Follow the St Finbarr’s Pilgrim Walk
Rural West Cork is a welcoming corner of Ireland and Saga’s new five-night Stay & Explore holiday offers guests the perfect opportunity to discover the Emerald Isle’s natural beauty.
The 3-star Celtic Ross Hotel (3Q), in Rosscarbery Bay, sits beside a tidal inlet with views over the lagoon which is a birdwatching hotspot to see egret, kingfishers, heron, oystercatchers, waders and swans.
Wildlife lovers can also opt to join a boat trip to look for whales and dolphins. The coast of West Cork is frequented by a number of different species including minke whales, fin whales and common dolphins.
There are plenty of walks to enjoy from Rosscarbery and St Finbarr’s Pilgrim Way takes walkers up hills, across valleys and through woodland to the old church of Gougane Bara. For those who love to cycle, bikes can be hired locally and there are self-guided rides to follow to make the most of beautiful landscape.
Dursey Island can only be reached by cable car across the sea and guests can opt to visit this peaceful island, as well as Sherkin Island, in Roaringwater Bay, home to around 100 people and a popular spot for holidaymakers.
The hotel’s Kingfisher Bar and Bistro has views over the lagoon and the menu features local produce and fresh seafood. All breakfasts are included, as well as three dinners. There are also plenty of excellent restaurants and pubs in the area for dining out.
