A new era of British cruising begins when Saga’s new boutique all-balcony ship Spirit of Discovery launches next summer with world-class fine dining, an array of entertainment, exceptional levels of service – and a chauffeur to the port.
Itineraries include Norway, one of UK cruise passengers’ favourite destinations, and the country’s awe-inspiring landscapes are explored – and explained – on a Spirit of Discovery’s Norway Rocks seven-night cruise.
There will be insightful lectures held onboard by a geologist, describing the powerful forces of nature which created the fjords, cliffs, mountains and island. The 999-passenger ship will make calls in to Kristiansand, Bergen, Ålesund and Haugesund – the royal seat of the Vikings – with the chance to travel by steam train on the Setesdal Railway and take a cable car to the summit of Mount Ulrikken.
The journey begins on the sunnier, southern Skagerrak coast, where colourful holiday huts contrast with green coastal grasses and grey rocks, and from Kristiansand guests can explore the lovely old town of Posebyen.
The UNESCO World Heritage City of Bergen is backed by mountains while Ålesund, the ‘Adventure Capital of the Fjords’, is a town with unusual art nouveau architecture, having been rebuilt after a devastating fire in 1904.
The final port of call, Haugesund, is surrounded by moors and mountains, and once prospered from herring fishing. Visitors can trace the legacy of Harald Hårfagre, the Viking who united Norway and became its first king more than 1,000 years ago, whose life is depicted in scenes at his burial mound, now a national monument.
Other attractions include an unexpected memorial to Marilyn Monroe, as well as the option of joining a RIB boat ride to visit the quaint and self-sufficient island of Rovaer.

Price Promise (Saga Pearl II, Saga Sapphire and Spirit of Discovery only): Should we ever reduce our prices or bring in a new special offer after you book (optional ad-hoc services are excluded), we’ll work out the difference and pass the value of the saving back to you. This applies as long as the discounted holiday is exactly the same package offered under exactly the same terms of sale (which means the full terms that apply to your holiday contract, including your cabin grade and whether your cabin is allocated at the time of booking or at embarkation). In calculating any possible saving due, we’ll take into consideration all offers and discounts that were applied at the time of booking and compare the overall price that you’ve been charged with the current price.
