Combine Alaska‘s inside Passage cruise with Rocky Mountaineer rail ride as Alaska celebrates 60 years as US state

  • Take helicopter ride over the Rockies
  • Ride Ice Explorer on Icefields Parkway
  • Go raft-riding in Athabasca River

Cruise along the coast of Alaska, which celebrates 60th anniversary as a US state in 2019, and take a rail journey through the spectacular Canadian Rockies in one thrilling holiday to explore the natural beauty and wildlife of North America.

Passionate travellers on the Rocky Mountains and Alaskan Adventure enjoy a tour of the vibrant city of Vancouver, in Canada, with seven nights aboard classic Holland America Line cruise ship MS Nieuw Amsterdam and seven nights in hotels.

After the flight to Calgary, the adventure begins in Banff with a cable-car ride up 8,000ft Sulphur Mountain and an excursion to Banff National Park, as well as the option to take a helicopter flight over the Rockies.

The Canadian leg of the tour also includes a visit to Jasper National Park and the jade-coloured waters of Lake Louise which reflect the Victoria Glacier, followed by the huge, snow-capped peaks and lush forests of the Icefields Parkway and the Athabasca Glacier, on the huge Ice Explorer vehicle.

An optional excursion is a raft ride on the Athabasca River, on the route used by fur traders and gold seekers two centuries ago.

The Rocky Mountaineer train takes guests through mountain and canyon scenery en route to Vancouver for a night’s stay in the four-star Georgian Court Hotel, in the theatre district.

The seven-night voyage aboard MS Nieuw Amsterdam features Alaska’s Inside Passage, including the Tracy Arm and other beautiful fjords, the state capital of Juneau, with the chance to visit the Red Dog Saloon or pan for gold, buildings from the gold rush era in Skagway, the incredible spires and pinnacles of ice in Glacier Bay National Park and Ketchikan, in the Tongass National Forest.
