Customise your cruise: Estonia

Saga announced as winner of the 'Best for Solo Travellers' category at the British Cruise Awards 2018.

Spirit of Discovery casts new light on the Baltic

  • Play a round of golf at the  27-hole Aalborg Golf Klub in Denmark
  • Enjoy private viewing at St Petersburg’s Hermitage Museum
  • Uncover Cold War history at the KGB Museum in Tallinn
  • Stay out late with overnight moorings in Stockholm and St Petersburg.

Customise your cruise – and let Spirit of Discovery’s Explore Ashore team cast a new light on the Baltic's classic cities.

Saga’s world-travelled Explore Ashore team understands that most guests want something different when it comes to visiting ports of call, so from arts to architecture and sport to sailing, the team can elevate the cruise experience by offering insider information, making bookings, arranging transport or simply advising on cruise tour options.

On the 14-night Myths and Legends of the Baltic cruise, which sails from Dover on September 12, 2019, guests can team up with fellow golfers for a day at Denmark’s second oldest golf club, the 27-hole Aalborg Golf Klub, and the Explore Ashore team can help with transport or bridge any language barriers to make it a round to remember.

During an overnight mooring in St Petersburg, guests can sign up for an enchanting evening with a private visit to the Hermitage Museum which Shore Excursions Manager Neil Cron describes as ‘a magical evening’.

He said: “This special private visit to the Hermitage Museum is a magical evening. In the Winter Palace, climb the opulent Jordan staircase and follow in the footsteps of the Imperial family through elegant state apartments, past an art collection that includes Rembrandt’s Return of the Prodigal Son. Finally sip sparkling wine and listen to a performance by the Hermitage Academy Symphony Orchestra in a magnificent room hung with great works of art.”

In St Petersburg there is a further opportunity to attend an evening performance of Russian song and dance that showcases folkloric traditions.

The beauty and culture of the Baltic is also brought on board Spirit of Discovery with entertainment from local performers and local experts who share their insights on the region's folklore and heritage.

With plenty of outdoor deck space and all-balcony cabins, guests on the new luxury boutique ship Spirit of Discovery can enjoy beautiful views of the Danish Straits' Great Belt and the shallow Limfjorden as well as disembarking to venture into the Estonian countryside to visit 18th-century Kadriog Palace, admire Helsinki's striking Rock Church and take a boat trip along Copenhagen's canals.
