- Chauffeur service included within 250 miles of the port

From wild coasts to the magnificent cities of Montreal and Quebec, Saga’s new Emerging Canada cruises through the spectacular scenery of the St Lawrence River which features the raw beauty of spring in Canada, when whales and seabirds arrive on migration.
During the 30-night sailing onboard the Saga Sapphire, there’s a chance to look for caribou, black bears and beavers in Gros Morne National Park, as well as the world’s largest colony of northern gannets. Take the opportunity to join a rail tour beside the St Lawrence passing mountains plunging to the sea where seals bask on the rocks.
The cruise is a must for lovers of nature, food and history, and to make the most of the adventure on shore. Activities on board Saga Sapphire include photography classes and talks on Canadian flora and fauna.
First landfall is at St John’s, Newfoundland, where, in 1901, Marconi received the first radio transmission at Signal Hill, and just along the coast is the site where Alexander Graham Bell worked on the creation of the telephone.
There’s more history in Halifax, the base for recovery missions after the sinking of the Titanic and the final resting place for many of the victims, and its museum has a large collection of artefacts.
For foodies, there are beer and wine-tasting excursions in Quebec, a food tour of Montreal and a RIB ride to sample scallops at a sea farm. Those with a head for heights can also treat themselves to a meal in Montreal’s revolving restaurant, Portus 360, while the final port of call offers cocktails on the volcanic island São Miguel.
On board, exceptional dining experiences are prepared by Saga’s executive chef – fine dining in the Pole to Pole restaurant comes as standard, while eating in the specialty Pan-Asian restaurant East to West comes at no extra charge.
Complimentary drinks include selected wines with lunch and dinner, house-branded spirits, draught beer and all soft drinks so guests can enjoy a tipple in their favourite spot on the ship – be it on The Verandah in the sunshine, Aviators or Cooper’s Bar, The Drawing Room or relaxing on their cabin balcony.
At the Beach Club, poolside treats continue deck with fish ‘n’ chips and ice-cream, while in The Pantry, guests can help themselves to cakes or biscuits as well as quality tea, coffee and hot chocolate 24 hours a day.
