A luxurious riverbank lodge in the heart of a wildlife reserve, where lion, elephant and rhino roam, is the base for a thrilling Into the Heart of Kruger safari holiday with Saga.
The 13-night Into the Heart of Kruger holiday, in a small group of up to 22 guests, includes big game experiences in three different areas of the Kruger National Park. Seven Game drives to look for African wildlife inside the national park are included on open-topped vehicles accompanied by expert guides to give you real insight into the wildlife in its natural surroundings. Four further game drives are also included in a more private reserve.
As well as completing the ‘big five’ by spotting buffalo and leopard, guests have the chance to see cheetah, hippopotamus, crocodile, giraffe, zebra, kudu, antelope, wildebeest and exotic birds.
In Imbali safari lodge, on the banks of the N’waswitsontso River, guests enjoy a luxury three-night stay in immaculate accommodation with elegant and comfortable furnishings, en suite bathrooms and a pool.
Kruger National Park, established in 1898 by Transvaal Republic president Paul Kruger, covers 7,500 square miles and is home to 850 species of animals, birds, reptiles and fish as well as heritage and archaeological sites.
The first three nights of the adventure are spent, full board, in a game lodge at the 85-square mile Makalali Private Game Reserve, Hoedspruit, with more than 1,000 animals to spot – it may not be too difficult, as they are able to wander through the unfenced camp, where rangers keep watch and guests can use a deck for an even better view.
There is a visit to the Mhoholo Rehabilitation Centre at the foot of the Drakensberg mountains, which cares for orphaned and injured animals, and a drive along part of South Africa’s Panorama Route with breathtaking views from so-called God’s Window, and sights of the huge Bourke’s Luck Pot Holes.
Three more nights are spent, full board, at colonial-style Buhala Lodge on the banks of the Crocodile River, on the southern boundary of Kruger National Park, and the final two nights at the boutique Critchley Hackle Lodge, overlooking a private lake, where sundowner drinks and dinner under southern skies complete the true African experience.
