New ship Spirit of Discovery goes all-inclusive for 2019 winter sailings

Drinks, tips, entertainment, fine dining and a chauffeur to and from the port add great value to cruise price

Guests on Saga’s new ship Spirit of Discovery’s last 3 winter 2019 sailings enjoy included drinks, tips, entertainment, fine dining and even a chauffeur to the port**. A complimentary shuttle bus, into towns where the port is more than 500 yards from the ship’s mooring, is also laid on.

The three sailings on 999-guest, all-balcony Spirit of Discovery range from 14 to 35 nights and offer great value for guests who want to book a cruise without the worry of budgeting for extras. Even the specialty restaurants do not have a cover charge on the new luxury ship.

Spanish Islands of the Atlantic

14 nights from £2,999 per person departing Southampton on November 4, 2019

This foodie-focus sailing sees guests cook up a storm in Funchal, Madeira, during a special cookery class of regional cuisine led by two local sisters.

Spirit of Discovery sails parallel to the Iberian Peninsula west coast before cruising along the Tagus River to Portugal’s elegant capital of Lisbon. Four Canary Islands are also on the itinerary to admire Mount Teide’s volcanic terrain in Tenerife, trek through pine forests to dine at a delightful tapas restaurant in La Palma, retrace Christopher Columbus’ footsteps in La Gomera and see Fuerteventura’s plutonic rock formations on nature walks or a 4x4 safari.

Roman Italy and Sardinia

16 nights from £3,321 per person, departing Southampton on November 18, 2019

Visit Rome, the Leaning Tower of Pisa, Mount Vesuvius and Pompeii, as well as Gibraltar and the Spanish pilgrimage centre of Santiago de Compostela on this alluring sailing.

There are lectures on the history of the Roman Empire, as well as dining on dishes that the Romans would have enjoyed.

Further ports of call include Piombino, in Tuscany; Porto Torres, said to have been founded by Julius Caesar; Salerno, on the Almalfi Coast; Malaga and Ferrol, in Spain.

Fairy Tale of New York

35 nights from £8,999 per person departing Southampton December 5, 2019

Experience the magic of the festive season in New York and see in the New Year with a deck party beneath the stars in Bermuda on this historic voyage.

After the maiden Atlantic crossing, the seasonally-decorated luxury boutique ship sails into the Caribbean with calls to Barbados, Dominica, St Maarten and Puerto Rico for days on palm-fringed powder-white sandy beaches or sunshine tours.
Guests can enjoy lectures on US history and current affairs, take part in a Broadway-style show performance or hit the town on overnight stays in New York and Bermuda.
