Combine fascination with relaxation to savour Malaysian treasures

Towering cityscapes, paddy fields and cultural traditions explored in an eastern adventure

  • Small group of up to 25 guests
  • VIP door-to-door chauffeur
  • Dedicated tour manager

The colourful culture, exciting city life, luxurious hotels and beautiful beaches of Malaysia await guests on a holiday combining fascination with relaxation.

Touring at leisure is the theme of Saga’s Malaysia: City, Culture and Beach adventure which features stays in vibrant Kuala Lumpur, colonial Penang and the paradise island of Langkawi, with free time and cocktail hours included alongside revealing excursions.

Accommodation in Kuala Lumpur is at the Saga-rated five-star Renaissance Kuala Lumpur and a city tour takes in the 452-metre twin Petronas Towers, Chinatown, the new King's Palace and the Masjid Negara, one of the largest mosques in south-east Asia.

In Penang, reached by a scenic drive, the small group of up to 25 guests stay at the Victory Annexe wing of the Eastern and Oriental Hotel, founded in the 1880s by the four Armenian brothers who also built Raffles in Singapore.

Sometimes called the 'Pearl of the Orient', Penang features seafront water villages of Chinese clan houses, lok lok street food, the 'Street of Harmony' where places of worship include the Goddess of Mercy Temple, the State Museum, a Burmese Temple and the Thai Temple with its 33 metre-long Reclining Buddha figure in his gilded saffron robe.

At the 99-island archipelago of Langkawi, guests stay on the main island with its beautiful beaches, mangrove swamps and duty-free shopping, where the Saga-rated four-star Aloft Langkawi Pantai Tengah Hotel is 200 metres from the Andaman Sea and beach.

A guided tour reveals charming villages, paddy fields worked by water buffalo, rubber plantations, the Batik Art Village and the tomb and legend of beautiful Princess Mashuri, who shed white blood after being stabbed on the false accusation of adultery by her jealous mother-in-law.
