Saga today announces a partnership with Olympic gold medallist Dame Kelly Holmes to launch a new workout programme that has been specifically designed for the over 50s. The programme, which will launch on Monday the 8th of June, aims to play a role in keeping the nation active as leisure and sport facilities remain closed due to the ongoing lockdown measures.
Dame Kelly has designed the programme of workouts for all levels of ability and will focus on a different part of the body each week to help build strength, improve fitness and give people gain confidence to be active while at home or in their garden. The equipment needed to take part are all items that can be found at home.
The partnership with Dame Kelly Holmes is the latest in a stream of activity from Saga’s #NotGoingOutClub which launched in March to keep people entertained during lockdown. Dame Kelly Holmes said:
“Keeping fit and active is absolutely vital to maintaining a healthy lifestyle and as we get a bit older, it becomes even more important. With the lockdown measures in place, it has been trickier than usual to keep up with a fitness regime over the past few months, particularly with leisure facilities being closed. The workouts have been designed with all abilities in mind, whether you are usually a regular gym go-er or someone that is looking for a bit of fun to keep active while spending more time at home. I’m really passionate about the role of fitness in keeping healthy so I’m really excited to be partnering with Saga to help over 50s across the UK keep active.”
Louise Robinson, Editor of Saga Magazine, said:
“We know that lockdown has meant that many people haven’t been able to be as active as they usually would. As the restrictions begin to lift, we are still likely to be faced with the prospect of not being able to access leisure facilities or take part in the hobbies many of us enjoy to keep fit. Fitness has a huge role to play in keeping healthy, not just physically but also mentally. We’re thrilled to be partnering with Dame Kelly to provide our members and the wider community access to workouts which have been designed with their age group in mind. It’s time to dust off the trainers!”
