Saga’s new Gorilla tactics

Saga’s new Gorilla tactics: GEN Gorilla EXT 24342-2

Exclusively designed Uganda tour doubles chance to see mountain gorillas

Chimpanzee tracking and looking for rare tree-climbing lion also on itinerary for small groups of up to 14 guests

It is a rare privilege to see gorillas in the wild and Saga’s exclusive Gorillas of Uganda tour gives two opportunities to trek through Bwindi National Park to see these fascinating creatures.

The new 11-night tour also features chimpanzee tracking and looking for the rare tree-climbing lion during mountain hikes and game drives in national parks.

Guests stay in Saga-rated 3Q to 4Q guest houses, hotels and safari lodges, starting in Entebbe with time to explore the city and a tea plantation before arriving in Kibale National Park. A guided forest walk to look for chimpanzees and unusual birds is followed by an opportunity to visit a local school.

After a hike on Mount Rwenzori the tour continues to Queen Elizabeth National Park for safari drives and a cruise on the Kazinga Channel.

In Bwindi National Park, a game drive through the Ishasha sector is home to the tree-climbing lion and during a three-night lodge stay guests trek through Bwindi National Park with personal porters and an experienced guide for a chance to get close to family groups of mountain gorillas.

The national park is home to 700 mountain gorillas and an eminent primatologist gives an evening lecture to offer a greater insight into the gorillas’ survival and habitat. The next day guests can take an optional second gorilla trek, meet a traditional healer and Batwa Pygmies or join a Bwindi forest walk.

A six-hour scenic drive to Lake Mburu National Park to see impala and zebra is next on the itinerary before a last early morning guided nature walk with a chance to look for topi, warthog and buffalo. Guests who want to extend the trip can opt for a two-night stay at Paraa Safari Lodge (4Q), in the Murchison Falls National Park for £649.
