When the crew aren’t sure where they’re going, you know it’s a real mystery tour. And that’s one of the magical twists to Captain Horne’s Mystery Cruise, surprising up to 720 passengers every day for three weeks.

The intriguing voyage aboard Saga Sapphire will leave Southampton in November, with Captain Stuart Horne promising: “I like to keep everyone guessing as long as possible. Perhaps I’ll head down an estuary towards a port, then simply turn around and go in another direction – that’ll bamboozle them.

“I’ll only tell my navigation team and engineers as much as they need to know for route planning and fuel management. After all, the more people in on it, the greater the risk that someone will let slip the next destination and spoil the fun.”

One certainty of the sailing is the presence of the Syd Lawrence Orchestra, who will entertain on six nights. Directed by Chris Dean, since founder Syd’s retirement in 1996, and featuring star vocalist Sarah Eyden, the orchestra recreates big band standards by music legends, including Glenn Miller, Count Basie, Tommy Dorsey and George Gershwin.

The adventure will be Saga Sapphire’s last mystery cruise and features all-inclusive drinks with choice of table wines at lunch and dinner, house-branded spirits, draught beer and lager and soft drinks.
